B wanted to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving!

Cutest Stocking Stuffer ever!

Little Max!

And of course, my beautiful godson :)

A little late…Week 26

November 26, 2008

I have to admit, I am not a fan of Gerber or any of their products…but as far as these weekly updates, they have been hitting the nail on the head.  Little Mr. N is not my favorite son right now, I probably only got 2 hours of sleep last night because he decided he didn’t want to :(   He kicked me all.night.long.  He must be excited about all the turkey, sweet potato, and pumpkin pie talk!

BBMan isn’t feeling very well right now, hopefully with the help of some meds and Vapor Rub, he will be feeling better by tomorrow!  Despite a little coughing, we have had a great week off so far!  We went to our favorite breakfast spot, First Watch, then hit the aquarium on Monday.  He spent the night with Mamaw Beth and Papa Sandy Monday night and went to school yesterday, and today we are cooking!

Pregnancy: 2nd Trimester

Week 26: Your pregnancy

Week 26: Your pregnancy

Your baby’s growth: Eyelashes!

Between now and week 29 your baby will have a growth spurt and gain another pound. As your baby grows, space gets tighter inside the womb. Your baby now measures about 12.8 inches tall and probably weighs almost 2 pounds.

Most of this weight is bone and tissue because she still doesn’t have much body fat. In fact the main development of body fat doesn’t really occur until late in the third trimester.

Developments that occur this week:

  • Eyelashes. These begin to grow as your baby begins to blink and open her eyes.
  • More hair. Hair continues to grow on her head.
  • Spine. To support her growing body, your baby’s spine is getting stronger and more flexible.
  • Plumping up. Although she hasn’t put on much fat, she is beginning to look a little plumper.

What’s happening with you

  • Weight gain. You’ve probably gained from 16 to 20 pounds by now, which includes your baby’s weight, plus the weight of the placenta, enlarged uterus, amniotic fluid, and excess blood volume. There is also fat storage in the maternal body (largely during the second trimester) that averages 4 to 7 pounds.
  • Additional isolated pain. As the uterus enlarges and your baby gets bigger, you may notice more back pain, pelvic pressure, leg cramps, and headaches. Be sure to report any pains that even remotely feel like contractions to your doctor. Preterm labor (beginning before the baby is fully developed) is much easier to stop in the early stages.
  • Your baby’s moving around. By now you can probably feel your baby moving every day, although not all babies are equally active. If you become concerned during those moments when you can’t feel your baby move, try lying on your left side and being still. It’s usually easier to feel fetal movement in that position.

Week 25

November 17, 2008

Once again, adding the “what’s happening to you section” so people feel sorry for me – totally relevant once again :(   Sympathize for me, I can’t even eat tomatoes!  Do you know how many of my favorite foods contain tomatoes?!?!?  AND, I had to throw out my contacts this morning because my eyes were itching so badly - I am 4-eyes at work today…

Week 25: Your pregnancy

Week 25: Your pregnancy

Your baby’s growth: Your baby continues to grow

At 1 ½ pounds and a length of about 8 to 10 inches, your baby is growing at a steady pace.

The umbilical cord is thick and resilient now, covered in a firm, slippery substance that prevents kinking and knotting and may regulate the blood flow between placenta and your baby.

During this week your baby is spending more time preparing for life after birth. Nerves around the mouth and lip area are becoming more sensitive, preparing her for that all-important task of finding a nipple and getting nourishment.

This week you could expect:

  • Fist-making. He will begin curling her fingers into a fist.
  • Dexterity. This will continue to develop as your baby learns how to control his hands.
  • Exploration. He’ll continue to explore his surroundings, including the umbilical cord.
  • Spinal structure. Your baby’s spinal structure will begin to form.
  • Open nostrils. Your baby’s nostrils begin to open.

What’s happening with you

  • Light sensitivity. Your eyes may become sensitive to light, feeling gritty and dry. Caused by hormones, this is a perfectly normal pregnancy symptom called dry-eye. To ease your discomfort try using an “artificial tears” solution for added moisture.
  • Indigestion continues. You may also notice the onset of or continue to experience indigestion. This is caused by the hormone progesterone slowing down the emptying of the stomach to allow for increased absorption of nutrients for your baby. Eating smaller, more frequent meals and avoiding spicy and fatty foods may help ease this condition.

Do NOT buy Motrin products

November 15, 2008

I am so offended by their current ad campaign, I don’t even have words….

DON’T BUY MOTRIN PRODUCTS.

Babywearing is NOT trendy, it is extremely beneficial for both parent and child.  In the 2 and a half years I have been babywearing, I have never been in any pain, and only have an extremely happy, independent, and intelligent child to show for it.

MONDAY UPDATE:

Someone finally got a response from Motrin’s VP of Marketing - I am sure after the several hundred e-mails that clogged up their inboxes.  At least they are listening (or say they are)!

Stupid Deer…

November 12, 2008

If you see a deer limping down 16 today with a bald spot, it was probably the one that got swiped by my van going 50 mph last night….Don’t worry, everyone is ok but the deer and my beautiful van.  Luckily, I even had a Dr. appt today and Nolan is romping non-stop at his usual pace.  But I wasn’t worried, he kept me up half the night as always.

We told B we hit a rock, and after quietly thinking about it for a moment, he asked, Mommy, was it a goat or a deer? Let’s just go home and not do that again. Stupid deer.” So now he keeps asking if the deer is coming back….exactly WHY I didn’t want him knowing it was a deer.  He is just too darn smart.

Nate just called.  So far, the rough estimate to get the van fixed is $2500 :(   Nothing a $500 co-pay won’t fix, but alas, $500 at Christmas time is no fun to fork over…

B has this thing with car washes.  He loves to go to Johnny’s where he can watch the cars go through the car wash, but hates the gas station kind that you have to drive through.  He calls it the “wavy car wash“, with hand gestures and whole 9 yards.  He points it out (the one at BP off the Taylor Mill exit) every time we drive by.

So as we were driving to dinner Saturday night, he points out the car wash, and then Nate asks him if he is going to wash our cars when he gets bigger.

His response:

“No Dad, when I get bigger I am not going to wash cars – Nolan can.  Max can too.  And doesn’t Aunt Loren have a baby in her belly?  Well, he can too.”

I don’t think we have ever laughed so hard in our lives.

So besides acting like the king of the mountain entirely too prematurely, he also decided that he didn’t have to listen to a word that we said to him this weekend….Anyone in the market for a 2 and a half year old?  He’s housebroken and pretty cute….

Prayers needed this week

November 10, 2008

Two very special little kids will be having surgery on the same day this week.  Please think of Rachel and Aiden tomorrow.

Rachel will behaving brain surgery to repair the “leak” in the dura patch (membrane around the brain) and also to prevent the growth of the syrnx. The surgery will essentially be the same major surgery as before with a similar hospital stay and recovery time.

Aiden will be having his first surgery to seperate his fingers and toes.  For those who don’t know about Aiden, please read his blog.  He is my friend Taryn’s 9 month old son who was born with Apert Syndrome.  As this will be his first surgery, the second digit surgery will follow when he is 12 months, and his first cranial surgery at 15 months.  They have found a wonderful surgical team in Dallas, TX and are confident that Aiden will have full function of all fingers and toes!  Aiden has a long road ahead of him, but let’s pray that it’s not bumpy.

6 months!

November 10, 2008

We have reached the 6 month mark!  No news to report…I am just hoping for the next few months to go by pretty quickly.  I can’t wait to meeting this little Mr. – but mostly can’t wait for him to stop kicking me in the gut :)

Your baby’s growth: Lung development, balance & touch

Your baby still has a lot of growing to do. At 1.2 pounds and 8 to 9 inches, he should add at least another 5 pounds before birth for optimum health.

This week he prepares himself for a big cry upon arrival. His lungs begin to produce surfactant, a wetting agent that will help him breathe correctly and keep his tiny lungs from collapsing or sticking together. Blood vessels and air sacs are developing in the lungs and will eventually exchange oxygen and circulate it to all parts of your baby’s body.

This week the following developments may occur:

  • Inner ear. This will become fully formed. Controlling balance, the inner ear means that your baby may be able to tell when she is upside down or right side up while floating in the amniotic fluid.
  • Touch. He will continue to explore her internal environment, flexing his fingers and touching his surroundings.

I took a half day vacation from work today so I could go spend some time with Katie, Brad and the new baby.

Meet Maddox (Max) Bradley, weighing in at 8lbs 3oz, 21 inches.  Born on November 3rd at 10:15pm.  He is perfectly perfect.  He has a head full of hair, slept the whole time I was there, and is almost the spitting image of his big brother.

Blake when he was born.  I think the boys are going to have different eyes.

And after I spent a couple hours with Max, I got to the polls around 2:45pm thinking that I would just walk right in.  Oh no my friend…2 hours 15 minutes later, my feet were bleeding and cramped and I was in a horrible mood because I knew Nate would have about a 3 hour wait to vote.  Meaning that I had to go home and make dinner and I was dog tired :(

I voted, and that is all that matters.  But in 4 years, I am getting an absentee ballot.

Halloween 2008!

November 4, 2008

B had a very busy day on Halloween, and 20 lbs of candy to show for it!  First, he had school, then he came to my office, and then we had ole’ fashion Trick or Treat in our neighborhood.  After about 5 houses he said “Mommy, I have enough candy, let’s go home“.  Well, we weren’t even half way to Brad and Katie’s house, so we had to get out the wagon and drag the peacock up the street!

Blakers is a BIG BROTHER TODAY!!!  Baby Wool #2 came into the world last night at about 10pm weighing 8lbs 3oz.  Everyone is doing great, and I will have more info and pictures tonight!

VOTE!

November 4, 2008

Make sure you take the time to get out and VOTE today!

And just so you know where our household stands….

If you are in the Kentucky 69th district, vote for Adam Koenig for State Rep!

If you live in Ft. Wright, vote for Dave Abeln for city council!

Seriously….you’re 2!

November 3, 2008

That was my reaction to the question below, asked by my entirely-too-intelligent 2 year old on the way home last night:

“Mommy, how did Nolan get in your belly?”

I tried to ignore it, but he just wouldn’t give up!  Nate finally replied, “God put him there“.  Brayden said, “Who?”, but then finally gave up his quest in an answer he understood.  Thank god.  Seriously, he is 2!!!  I am obviously not prepared to answer the hard questions yet!

I am also not prepared to have a child who is smarter than me…I sware the words, “Seriously? You’re 2” come out of my mouth at least twice a week.  Last week it was when he came to me with a magnet from the fridge.  It was the letter “d”.  He said, Mommy look, it’s a “d”, but when I turn it this way, it is a “p”….

Nolan is much more active than B was.  B kicked a little during the day, but always slept well at night.  I told Nate last night with as much as he kicks me, I am going to have a 6 pack stomach after his arrival (don’t I wish!).  Oh, and the 8-9 inches thing below???  They told us at our ultrasound (20 weeks) he was already 10 inches!

I talked to KT last night around 9pm and she was having regular contractions since about 1pm yesterday, so keep the Woolridge family in your thoughts, we may have an early arrival!

Week 23: Your pregnancy

Week 23: Your pregnancy

Your baby’s growth: He’s 8 to 9 inches long

Your baby continues to grow and by the end of the week will measure about 8 to 9 inches long. By week 23 your baby is taking on the shape of a full-term baby, but his bones and organs are still visible beneath a thin layer of translucent skin.

Although your baby continues to add fat to his body, he still looks wrinkly. This happens because his skin develops more quickly than fat accumulates.

Here are other developments this week:

  • More movement. He’ll begin moving around more than ever, stretching and flexing the muscles in his arms and legs, fingers, and toes.
  • Skin tone. Skin pigment is being deposited this week to create your baby’s skin tone.
